Privacy Policy
DRAFT, not yet reviewed by a lawyer. This page is a working template. Fill in the highlighted placeholders and have it reviewed before the site goes live.
Effective date: [EFFECTIVE DATE] · Last updated: [LAST UPDATED DATE]
This policy explains how Idle & Rev ("we", "us"), operated by [LEGAL ENTITY / OWNER NAME], collects, uses, and shares information when you visit [SITE URL] or subscribe to our newsletter.
1. Information we collect
- You give us: your email address (and optionally your name) when you subscribe, plus anything you send us by email or reply.
- Collected automatically: IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, referring site, and approximate location. Our email provider also records whether newsletters are opened and which links are clicked.
- Cookies and similar technologies: see section 5.
We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information. The site is not directed to children under 13 (COPPA), and we do not knowingly collect their data.
2. How we use it
- To send the newsletter and service messages you asked for
- To measure and improve content (aggregate open, click, and traffic stats)
- To show and measure ads and sponsorships, and to track affiliate referrals
- To prevent abuse and comply with the law
3. Newsletter and email (beehiiv)
Our newsletter is hosted by beehiiv, which stores subscriber data and delivers emails for us under its own privacy policy (beehiiv.com/privacy). Under the U.S. CAN-SPAM Act, every email we send will:
- identify Idle & Rev as the sender
- use honest subject lines
- label sponsored content as advertising
- include our postal address: [POSTAL ADDRESS]
- include a working one-click unsubscribe link, honored within 10 business days
4. Analytics
We use [ANALYTICS PROVIDER, e.g. Google Analytics 4 / Plausible] to understand site traffic. It may set cookies and process your IP address and device information. Where offered, you can opt out using the provider's tools, for example the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
5. Cookies
We and our partners use cookies for basic site function, analytics, advertising (if and when ads run, for example Google AdSense, which uses cookies to serve ads based on prior visits), and affiliate tracking. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some features may not work without them. Our site [DOES / DOES NOT] respond to browser "Do Not Track" signals. We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals as an opt-out of sale or sharing where required by law.
6. Affiliate links and advertising
Some links are affiliate links (see our Disclosures). When you click one, the retailer or network may set a cookie to credit us with the referral. We don't receive your purchase details beyond what's needed to confirm a commission. Sponsors never receive subscriber email lists from us without your consent.
7. How we share information
We share information only with service providers acting for us (email delivery, hosting, analytics, ad and affiliate networks), when required by law, or as part of a business transfer. We do not sell your email address. Some ad and analytics cookies may count as "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising under California law. You can opt out as described below.
8. Your California privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA & CalOPPA)
If you live in California, you have the right to:
- know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose
- access it and get a copy
- correct it
- have it deleted
- opt out of its "sale" or "sharing"
- limit the use of sensitive personal information
- be free from discrimination for using these rights
To exercise these rights, email [CONTACT EMAIL] or use [OPT-OUT LINK / FORM]. We will verify your request and reply within 45 days. You may use an authorized agent. Under CalOPPA, this policy is linked from every page, describes our Do Not Track practices (section 5), and will be updated with a revised "Last updated" date when it changes. Note: CCPA obligations apply to businesses that meet its thresholds. We provide these rights regardless.
9. Other privacy rights
Residents of other U.S. states and of the EU/UK may have similar rights, such as access, deletion, correction, objection, and portability. Contact us to use them. Our legal bases for processing (EU/UK) are consent (newsletter), legitimate interests (analytics and security), and legal obligation.
10. Data retention and security
We keep subscriber data while you're subscribed and for [RETENTION PERIOD] afterward, unless the law requires longer. We use reasonable safeguards, but no system is 100% secure.
11. Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be announced in the newsletter or on this page.
