Ford opens Fathom EV pickup invites at $29,945

2 min read

Ford's first Universal EV platform truck starts under $30,000 with destination, but real preorders wait until early 2027.

Ford has opened a preorder-invite list for the Fathom, its new low-priced electric pickup, according to Electrek and InsideEVs as summarized by Swil-News. CBT News also highlighted the launch.

The price is the hook. Electrek reports the standard-range truck is $28,350 before a $1,595 destination charge. InsideEVs, citing Ford, puts the starting price at $29,945 including destination, still under $30,000.

This is a waitlist, not an order book. Official preorders are expected in early 2027, with deliveries later that year. The first prototypes are scheduled to be built at Ford's Louisville Assembly plant, and a Ford spokesperson told Electrek the 2027 launch timing hasn't changed.

The Fathom is the first model on Ford's Universal EV platform and uses a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery. InsideEVs adds that it has a 400-volt system, rear-wheel drive as standard, and an available dual-motor all-wheel-drive version. Every truck gets BlueCruise hardware, bidirectional charging, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Some key numbers are still missing. Ford hasn't published range, towing or payload, which are exactly the figures pickup buyers will want before committing.

Why it matters: a sub-$30,000 electric pickup from a major brand is a big deal at a time when the average new vehicle sells for more than $50,000. If you're interested, the invite list is open now, but wait for range and towing figures before treating it as a firm plan.
