Porsche Mission S revving videos hint at an eight-cylinder

Clips from the New York debut sound like the rumored flat-eight.

Porsche still hasn't said what powers the Mission S, the mid-engine concept it revealed in New York on Oct 15. But Motor1 reports that videos posted on Instagram from the debut event, by creators including UAESupersport, JustinsCarBlog and MX.LYK, show the car moving and revving, and that it sounds like an eight-cylinder engine.

That fits the strongest rumor, according to Motor1: a new flat-eight developed specifically for this platform, likely with hybrid assistance. It would be the first flat-eight in a Porsche production car.

Porsche has confirmed only that the Mission S previews a permanent mid-engine super sports car platform above the 911. It has not published engine details, output, price or a launch date.
