The '80s-and-'90s car festival comes to Alameda on Oct 24 with free admission, full-throttle demos and Mix Master Mike.
RADwood, the festival for cars and culture of the 1980s and '90s, returns to the San Francisco Bay Area on Saturday, Oct 24, and for the first time it's free. Hagerty, which runs the event with presenting sponsor Goodyear, announced the details on Oct 10.
The show runs from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Gold Bar Hangar at historic Alameda Point in Alameda, California. Admission is free, but Hagerty asks everyone to reserve a ticket in advance. Hagerty Drivers Club members get early entry at 3 p.m.
This year's format is new. Hagerty says it's the brand's first free evening event, and it adds Wheels in Motion, a driving exhibition where significant cars from the era do full-throttle flybys with the San Francisco skyline behind them. Hundreds of period-correct cars, trucks and motorcycles will be on display.
The music headliner is Bay Area native Mix Master Mike, the longtime Beastie Boys DJ and a three-time DMC World DJ Champion. Pioneer is supplying period tunes as the official sound partner.
Featured classes include Kei Cars, Tuners, Movie Cars and Mustang vs. Camaro. RADwood is also expanding into the Y2K era with a new "Millenia" class for cars from 2000 to 2010. There will be Bay Area food trucks and RADwood's Raddest Dressed contest for the best period-correct outfit.
If you own a rad car, Hagerty says show car owners can register their vehicles on the RADwood website. For everyone else, it's a free night out with cars that are quickly becoming collectible, and a chance to hear them at redline.
